Company history

1949


Franz Wulf founded the Franz Wulf & Co. plastic goods factory in Greven.
 
 

1953


The legendary butterfly on the coffee-pot drip catcher was the first plastic item to be manufactured in-house with the help of a hand-operated injection moulding machine.
 
 

1955


A tool and mould construction department was added.
 
 
 

1956


The company continued to expand and moved to Emsdetten, where the first plant-care articles were produced.
 
 

1958


As from now, the successful products were marketed under the registered trademark of "EMSA Plastic".
 
 

1960


The first EMSA tableware series, consisting of salad bowls, salad tongs, egg cups and beakers appeared on the market. The two-colour design was exactly in keeping with the trend of that period.
 
 

1963


EMSA moved into its current premises on Grevener Damm in Emsdetten. Not long after that the company began trading under the name of EMSA-Werk.
 
 

1964


Until 1997, EMSA also manufactured goods at the newly constructed subsidiary plant in Lingen.
 
 

1971


The red spot became the final corporate logo. The well-known symbol has been the registered trademark since 1969.



 
 

1975


The new administrative building with its much acclaimed architecture was completed.
 
 

1977


From then on, the company traded under the name of EMSA-Werke
 
 
 

1982


EMSA launched a product innovation in the vacuum jug sector: the Thermostars - vacuum jugs with the patented Thermomatic closure system. "Press - Twist - Seal!" - it's that easy.
 
 

1995


A new generation of EMSA classics: the Quick-Tip jugs with single-handed operation.
 
 

1999


EMSA celebrated its 50th anniversary. In the same year, EMSA took over ADDIS, the leading British housewares company, thus paving the way for its own success in Great Britain.



 
 

2000


Capacity was increased: four large silos were erected for storing the main raw materials - with a volume of about 97 m³, corresponding to a bulk quantity of approximately 2.5 lorry loads per silo.
 
 

2004


EMSA put its tool-manufacturing and injection-moulding departments at the disposal of other companies and granted licences for its own know-how - very successfully.

The CLIP&CLOSE airtight storage container series was launched and proved to be a great success! Meanwhile, the third extension to the series has already been introduced.
